Mrs. Nia Stivers, Nationally Board Certified Teacher
I am back to my home school, North Jackson, after fourteen wonderful years at North Sand Mountain. Bridgeport is my community, and I'm a proud graduate of the NJHS Class of 1998.
Jacksonville State University trained me to teach kids, which is my passion; I feel honored to share my love of English, especially writing, with my students. I teach 11th grade English, Dual Enrollment English 101 for Northeast Alabama Community College, and one section of 9th grade English. In the evenings, I teach GED Classes for Northeast as well.
I obtained one of my professional goals of becoming Nationally Board Certified in high school English in 2006 and recertified in 2016. It was one of the most difficult yet rewarding processes I have been through.
My husband Jason and I met and began dating at NJ, and we reside in Bridgeport, where we are active members of First Baptist Bridgeport where we teach the youth group. We have two fur babies, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and have been blessed with a "chosen son," his wife and kids, and this year, an exchange student from Sweden, who is with me at North Jackson.
In 2011, I was led to write my "God story," my autobiography, Wobbly Legs on a Firm Foundation. This opportunity encourages me to push my students in their OWN writing.
